BECOMING A MOUNTAIN GUIDE | A new challenge for Fatima Gil
Fatima Gil, the Spanish member of our international ambassadors team, tell us her experience and motivations that led her to begin a career as professional mountain guide, together with her trusted Kayland footwear.
“I have been climbing mountains for more than 16 years. I have spent the last three years in the Spanish Mountaineering Team, climbing around the world. I think the time was right to share it with others. For this reason, I decided to start training to become a mountain guide. I have just finished my studies as a Mountain Guide with UIMLA accreditation (The Union of International Mountain Leader) to guide groups all over the world.
What motivates me most of this new profession is being able to share my passion for the mountains with more people. As Rebuffat said: ‘The guide does not climb for himself: he opens the doors of his mountains like the gardener the gates of his park. Altitude is a wonderful setting for a job, climbing gives him a pleasure that never tires him, but over everything satisfies the happiness of the fellows he accompanies’.
During the winter training, Fatima used the boots Apex Rock W'S Gtx, which she finds light, warm and comfortable. Ideal for many hours of activity in the snow, walking with snowshoes, building and sleeping in a snow cave. And they do not succumb to inclement weather. She used them with rain, snow, extreme cold (even at - 20°C) and strong wind. And during the summer training, she used the Gravity W'S Gtx shoes, that deliver a perfect weight combination and Gore-Tex® features to challenge foul weathers. A strong and durable shoe for hiking, rocks, and even canyoning.
Good luck to Fatima for her new challenge and thanks for sharing her words and thoughts!
