MATTEO RIVADOSSI | La Faccia Scura della Luna: new route in Val Brenta
Matteo Rivadossi has been a long-time friend of Kayland, as well as a technician for Camp. We partnered with him to develop our project Dry Dragon and Ice Dragon, the special ice climbing footwear that he tested himself.
Matteo uses Kayland boots for all his major ascents, such as the one he has achieved this February 2020.
Together with Sarah Haase and Simone Monecchi, Matteo Rivadossi has opened a new modern mixed route in Val Brenta named “La Faccia Scura della Luna”, which ascends near the famed route “Sotto gli Occhi della Luna”. The route is graded at M8/WI5.
“Among the many ideas tucked away in Val Brenta this is a line I’ve had in mind for some time. Not only mapped out in my head but also on the rock. With my nose in the air trying to figure out the moves, without worrying too much about neck ache caused by too many years of dry tooling, “ Matteo told Planetmountain.
It took a year to complete the line: having opened the crux pitch in 2019, the climbers had to wait a full year for the right conditions to complete their first ascent, with sufficient ice on the top pitch. You can find the full route description on Planetmountain.
